The scale is my first scale of any type. My wife and I just started the zone diet and I use the scale continuously to measure the correct portions of food. It's easy to clean, and very subtle (resting atop our counter). The "zero" or "tare" function is crucial, and all in all I have no complaints -- very good scale

These worked great to start with, but have recently become less reliable and the reading wanders all over the place and the reset button also no longer works well. They are also hard to clean - and I'd say that it really isn't necessary to have a liquid measurement button - you can just weigh in grams - or use a measuring jug! However we've contacted Salter, and are impressed with their customer service, I asked if they could replace them with a simpler set, and as a result they are sending us model no 1004 - recommended elsewhere on this site - to replace them.

Nice looking. However, looks are not everything. These scales go up in 2g so to obtain 15g you have to put sufficient on the scale to have it flashing between 14 & 16g. The real disapointment is that the scales are not consistant, I weighed the same item several times and found the readout different. I'm looking for another set to replace these.

I bought this as a replacement for the Salter 1600 which uses the same accurate strain-gauge measuring engine.
The Salter 3003 wins hands down over the 1600, because it uses proper push buttons, and weighs ingredients up to 5kg not a mere 3kg.
While not quite instant, the 3003 has a good and well-damped response, you don't have to hang about waiting for the reading to stabilise while adding ingredients.
It is not cluttered up with silly menu systems or redundant features found on some others we looked at.
It is simple and intuitive to use, quick and accurate. What more do you need from a kitchen scale?
Postscript. The pair of batteries lasted for about fifteen months of daily use before the readings became erratic. But then the replacements CR2032 Battery (2 pack) - Panasonic, Lithium Coin Cell, 3V were very cheap.
