purchased for a birthday present the first of these scales was unwrapped and found to be faulty - it would just not weigh anything, showing 3lb 4oz for an 8oz weight. Nothing we did would get an acurate reading so it was returned.I ordered a second unit the same day and low and behold - the same problem again. A phone call to Salter resulted in a 'gruff' voice telling us to return it. We were offered no explanation or appology from Salter so a further replacement scale will be selected from an alternative manufacturer. These scales are compact and so easy to use. Unfortunately after three years mine developed a fault where the display just showed 'E' (for error). As they were guaranteed for 10 years I contacted Amazon who referred me to HoMedics, who own Salter. I cannot fault their excellent customer service and I received a replacement set of scales within 48 hours. Even better, the new set now weighs down to 1g, rather than the 2g of the previous set.

Great scales but recently the numbers started to go funny. I thought it must be the battery so have just changed it and no there are no numbers at all. It is approx 3 years old so I guess that's okay but I am a little disappointed that I have to buy a new one.

This is my second set of these scales, the first one stopped working about a year after I bought them. Amazon replaced them straight away. I was really pleased because they are great scales, so easy to use and fast, they allow you to go between ounces and grams so easily. I had a previous model, thay lasted about 10 years, they had to be turned off before you could change from grams to ounces, not like these new ones.

Bought unseen this is a fantastic bit if kit for the kitchen. No need to worry about special bowls and weights just add and zero each time. It is accurate enough to weigh your letters too! The stainless steel top cleans really easily and it is small enough to pop in a drawer.
If I have a gripe it is that it does not look as classy as the pictures portray. It is extremely light and does not feel expensive. However, it works brilliantly and I rarely have an audience in my kitchen so would recommend it but perhaps go to the shops to choose one first. There are cheaper ones that probably do as good a job.
