| Customer Reviews: Salter kitchen scales November 17, 2009 Children'sBookworm (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Disappointing. I expected better from Salter. The scoop is too small for a serious baker/jam maker, and there is little flexibility to adjust the scale to work with other bowls/jugs. I am going to buy something different. (It does look pretty, though.)
I like my scales November 9, 2009 Ms. D. Patient (Huddersfield, UK) The scales are very easy to read and to use.
They fit into the cupboard easily, don't take up much space which is good as I only use them about once every 2 weeks.
Very happy with my purchase.
great scales September 10, 2009 Ella (UK) these scales are great tidy and neat and when not in use the bowl sits over (turn it upside down) to store. briliant.
A good instrument, but spoiled by a serious design flaw March 2, 2009 Pipps (Cheltenham, UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I purchased these scales because the weighing container appeared to be short and stout and less likely to be accidently knocked-over in a busy kitchen. To this end, the scales are certainly good.
However, what I did not expect, nor foresee from the product information available here, is that the mechanism for zeroing and adjusting the default weighing level for these scales, is riddled with a basic and unforgiveable design flaw.
If you increase the size of the photograph, you will see that at the front-bottom-middle of the unit, there is a small black protruding nodule. This nodule is used to adjust the scales' zeroing. However, this nodule is incredibly crude, innacurate, light and flimsy, and does not do a very good job of this simple task. Furthermore, as the nodule is part of the fundamental base of the unit, any movement of the scales by pushing them around on a kitchen worktop causes the zeroing to be unintentionally adjusted. This is irritating and unnecessary, and spoils the use of the instrument.
The upshot of this design flaw is, that the scales must be zeroed practically every time before use. Could you live with a set of scales like that? That is what you should consider, before placing your order.
These scales could have been perfect for my humble purposes, had the bug-ridden zeroing mechanism been implemented correctly. As it stands, these scales can only be described as below average.
Well designed February 28, 2009 G. Wade (Suffolk, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Salter 096Crbkdr Contour Mechanical Chromed Kitchen Scale With Clear Weighing Scoop This little weighing scale is well designed - small, neat and easy to store. Many of the scales on offer have a weight range which is too small or too large: for everyday cooking, this is just right (5lb capacity). I test-weighed some packaged items to make sure it is accurate, and it is.
